I recently bought a new(er) car and at the earliest opportunity I refitted my Car CD player that I had bought for the old one. The great thing about having this system in the new car is that now the more advanced features of the Radio actually work! Therefore, for the last couple of months I’ve been happily driving around with the radio set up to override the CD player with traffic reports and local news. So far, there is nothing unusual about this. I’m sure that many of you do the same.
The odd part of this story occurred on my journey back to Leeds from Edinburgh this evening. After stopping at the services about an hour and a half from home, I set off again with one of my current favourite CDs; Benny Bailey’s “I Remember Love”, playing in the car. During the 4th track, the radio suddenly cut in. I was naturally expecting a traffic report but instead I was greeted by music. The song in question had already begun and only a few bars after I started listening I realised that the Trumpet soloist who had just started to play was none other than Clark Terry doing his Muted Trumpet and Flügelhorn trading routine!! I listened to Clark do his thing and then, to my astonishment, as soon as he finished and the next soloist started to play the stereo switched back to the CD again! Is that spooky or what?
I guess my car stereo has learned my tastes over the 15-or-so months I’ve had it. I wonder if this will ever happen again?
